2012 Big Bend Immunization Coalition (BBIC)
Poster Contest Winners Announced
Winners of the 2012 poster contest were announced today at Wakulla County Middle School. County Health Department Immunization Coordinator Kris Whitten presented the awards on behalf of BBIC along with information about the importance of immunizations in protecting our children and adults from disease.
The contest was open to all 6th and 7th graders. The challenge was to create a poster sending out a message to other 6th and 7th graders and their parents on getting the Tdap, meningococcal, and HPV vaccine, with an emphasis on the Tdap vaccine since it is required prior to entering 7th grade. Here are the winning posters:
- First place award of $100. Era Taff 7th grade Wakulla Middle School.
- Second place award of $50. Wynter Harvey Wakulla Middle School.
- Third place award of $25. Gracie "Alex" Barwick 7th grade Wakulla Middle School.
The vision of the Big Bend Immunization Coalition is "to prevent illness and death from vaccine-preventable diseases by achieving and maintaining routine, up-to-date immunizations for all who reside in the Big Bend area." The poster contest is intended to encourage 6th and 7th graders and their parents to get the Tdap, meningitis, and HPV vaccines prior to entering 7th grade.
